Since then, the band's Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation has helped raise $200,000 directly for specific South Carolina schools, mostly around Charleston, and had a hand in raising another $1.5 million through a Monday after the Masters charity golf tournament.
Last year, the band launched a concert tour to raise donations for school supplies to give needy children in North and South Carolina.
This year, the tour expanded to eight states, including stops this week in Houston and Austin.
This should have been in the news to teach young people about giving back to their communities instead of Madonna's crucifixion.
